I would like to know are there any Operating Systems hiccups when upgrading to 5.1. Currenty we are running on Solaris 5.8 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-880. Thanks in advance.

Shouldn't be. Just be sure to specify the same user and installation directory when installing.
