httpd Error messages

Post by michel.weber »

Hi when coming back from lunch, i had the following errors on my browser connected to one of our brand new appliances :
118 /dowalk(Update) 9222: <EXEC> command /usr/bin/sudo returned exit code 1

HTTPS stopped
Stopping Webmin server in /usr/libexec/webmin
Starting Webmin server in /usr/libexec/webmin
Webmin restarted with new settings.
Stopping httpd: [FAILED]
Starting httpd: [Fri Sep 29 03:52:27 2006] [alert] httpd: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
[ OK ]
Apache tested with new settings.
Stopping httpd: [ OK ]
Stopping httpd: [FAILED]

This is logged in the 'boot log' file. So i checked our old appliance. I found the same error once 2 months ago.

This brings up a couple of questions.
- Why this sudden activiry (restarting of httpd, webmin ...)?
- domain name is not filled in on the appliances. Do i need to fill it in (with coe.int i imagine)?

That activity would be caused by visiting one of the Maintenance pages related to https and saving new settings such that it needed to restart the https servers. Did you leave your workstation unlocked when you went away? Maybe someone else was futzing with it. Or maybe you've got some web accelerator that's pre-fetching pages?

If you're not using https to access the appliance there's probably no need to change anything. Though it might be a good idea in general to have accurate host and domain names filled in.

No my workstation was locked.
Are those maintenance parameter changes logged somewhere?

Not in any detail. But the texis log transfer.log will list every access to each page.
