Search result ordering...

Post by Thunderstone »

To Whom it may concern:

Is there a way to order (or give weight) to the results of a search? For example, we have a press release directory with active press releases (the last recent 20) and a press release archive subdirectory. We'd like the search to give the hits from the active press releases first, followed by any hits found in the archive subdirectory. Is this possible?

TIA,

If you search for "ordering result" at
http://www.thunderstone.com/texis/webinator/listproc/ you will find a
discussion about how to do this. The condensed answer is that documents
will be retrieved in the order they were walked if they match the query
equally well, so from a clean database you should walk the active press
releases first, and then the archive. If you are doing a relevance rank
search then the relevance rank will be more important in determining the
result order than the walk order.
