Upper Case Directory Names

Post by Thunderstone »

It seems that the Webinator forces lower case on all URL's, so that you
cannot index any directory which includes an Upper Case letter in its
name.

I entered the URL correctly on the command line, but the logs show that
Webinator searched with the Upper Case letters changed to Lower Case.
Of course, "Not Found" errors resulted.

Am I missing something?

This is an undesired side effect in the NT version.
The next version will fix this problem. The problem only occurs with
URLs specified on the command line. URLs coming from HTML pages are
treated correctly.

A work around to this is to make the initial url all lower case. If you don't
have control over the HTML you want to walk, you can place the desired URL in
an HTML file on web server you can put files on. Something like this:
<title>workaround</title>
<a href=http://www.somesite.com/MixedCase.HTML>somesite</a>

Then walk that page using the "-world -p1" options:
gw -world -p1 http://www.mysite.com/workaround.html

Then perform the rest of the walk normally:
gw [options]
